Runner Trading Cards for Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half

There are many reasons why to run the Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half. One of the main reasons is simply because of the venue. Daufuskie Island, South Carolina is one of the most beautiful, eclectic places on earth. It is the hidden gem of the Southern United States. And, it’s just a hop, skip and a swim from another beautiful South Carolina island, legendary Hilton Head Island, home of some of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast. And, it doesn’t hurt that USA Today has rated the Daufuskie Island Marathon as one of the top destination Half marathons in the world!

I can continue listing reasons why the DI Marathon and Half should be on your radar and/or bucket list but that’s not what this particular blog entry is about.

With this blog entry, I want to talk about the runner trading cards we make for each runner that runs any Run 4 a Reason | Rough Runners races.

After the Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half is over and done with, we begin pumping out runner trading cards for each participant of the 13.1 and 26.2 mile races. We go through all of the amazing pictures taken by Corey Brooks and Malcolm Tully and try and match a picture with a race bib and runner’s race stats. The process is lengthy because every runner is unique and each card is made manually. Adding to the time constraints are that this race has now grown to a 500+ runner race. So, it literally takes us a couple of months to do all the runner trading cards for the DI Marathon.

Unfortunately, we’re not able to make out every bib number from the pictures. So, there are always some runners that do not get a runner trading made for them simply because we could not find a clearly visible race bib to match to the runner and their stats for the race.

So, here is where you come in. If you have not seen your runner trading card for this year’s race, find a picture of you from the race, email it to me (dlh14255@gmail.com) along with your name and, I’ll do the rest. As I complete the runner trading cards I upload them to the Daufuskie Island Marathon Facebook page’s albums. The album for this year’s race is called: 2024 Daufuskie Island Marathon Runner Trading Cards.

The runner trading cards are yours to keep, share and/or print as you like. This is just a little gift we provide you as a keepsake to remember your achievement. It’ll compliment your medal and hopefully, put a smile on your face as you fondly recall this experience again and again.

If you choose to share your runner trading card on social media we ask that you please give a shoutout to the photographer of your picture. Every runner trading card mentions the photographer who took your picture.

Thank you for adding the Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half to your running journey! We are honored to have you run Daufuskie with us!

Take care, be well, run happy!

much love,

Rough Runners

Run 4 a Reason LLC | Rough Runners INC is proud to have Howe2Run Specialty store as a top sponsor the last two years for the Daufuskie Island Marathon.

Howe2Run is a  running specialty store located right off I95 at exit 94 in Savannah, GA. In the four years the store has been serving customers,  it has become a pillar of the Lowcountry running community. It has been voted “Top 50 Run Store”, the last three years. You can find brands like Nike, Puma, Adidas, Newton and a few others. They carry all the gear necessities, including recovery and injury prevention tools. The team at H2R will find the best shoe for you after going through a free foot test. You may also opt for a biomechanics test that evaluates things like cadence, pronation, stride and so much more. If you get a chance, visit with this  team before the race. Meet the owners, Phillip and Pam Howe and, general manager, Marc Cameron.

The owner and businessman for Howe2Run is Phillip Howe. Phillip has always been involved in sports throughout his life as a coach, participant and spectator. With a passion to help others improve and provide performance advice, Phillip felt he needed to share that with the community. So when the opportunity presented itself for him to create Howe2Run, he ran with it.  Phillip is often attending workshops and brand events to fulfill those needs. You can also schedule biomechanical testing for an  evaluation of your running form with extensive data with him. His inspiration behind the store is not hard to notice.

When you meet Pam, Phillip’s wife and co-owner you better be ready to hit the pavement. She is always full of excitement and big energy. She will welcome you with her brilliant smile. You could say Phillip runs the store and Pam runs the streets. Pam brings together the community for group runs and fitness training. She Includes everyone from runners, walkers, or those working on becoming active. As a very accomplished runner, Pam holds her own, exceeding others half her age at 5k’s, marathons, and ultra running events! Pam ventured into running at age 50. Now, as she prepares to turn 60 her running portfolio is quite impressive. Having completed the Boston Marathon 4 times by qualifying and most recently completing a 50 mile distance she certainly is respected for her accomplishments in the running community.

Marc Cameron, the indispensable General Manager at Howe2Run, makes the team a family. Marc is a highly personable, driven runner that is always ready with a joke and a heartfelt hug to everyone he meets. When you walk in the doors of Howe2Run you are greeted and instantly know you are now family and you will get the best service. Beside wanting to find the right fit for your fitness goals, Marc is very passionate about healthy living. Marc lived a very unhealthy lifestyle for many years. He consequently began to experience many of the ailments that go with this. A health scare drove Marc to do a radical reboot of his life. From there, he chose to eat healthier, and started walking and then running. He wants to use his experience to pay it forward to help others be a stronger, healthier version of themselves. With his high energy and loud personality you can expect him to be your biggest cheerleader.

Together, Phillip, Pam, and Marc make an amazing team. They are very community driven, and incredibly passionate about the running community. Point in fact, Howe2Run is hosting “60 Year Challenge”. This challenge commemorates Pam’s 60th birthday this October but more importantly, it is a fundraiser for the Donna Foundation, an organization of financial assistance and support to those living with breast cancer. The 60 Year Challenge is also in remembrance of a dear runner in our community, Alice Carpenter, who succumbed to breast cancer in 2022. Their amazing love and sense of community is felt through the LowCountry, bringing the active community together from all over. As Howe2Run continues to grow we look forward to our alliance and friendship that is carried into the Daufuskie Island Marathon.
